25 year sentence for drug trafficking and money laundering
Former President Donald Trump, along with his adult children, filed an appeal on Monday in opposition to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ attempt to have them sit for depositions.
The Trumps argue, according to The Hill, that if James wants them to testify, she should bring them before a state grand jury, wherein witnesses can receive certain immunities.
The appeal in question is an attempt by the Trump family to block a lower court’s ruling last month, which ordered the former president and his two eldest children, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., to sit for a deposition in James’s probe regarding alleged fraudulent dealings by the Trump Organization.
Both James and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office are conducting separate investigations on whether Trump lowered property values on his forms for tax agents but raised them so as to look better for financial lenders.
Attorneys for the Trumps wrote Monday, in regards to the appeal, that statutory protections would be “eviscerated if the same agency involved in the criminal investigation simply opens up a ‘civil’ investigation into the very same matters.”
Late last month, Trump’s attorney’s filed a notice that they were seeking a review from the state appellate court after Judge Arthur Engoron ordered both Trump and his two eldest children sit for the attorney general’s depositions.
From the start of the investigation, Trump has repeatedly condemned it as a politically motivated witch hunt and has filed a federal lawsuit requesting an injunction against the investigation.

President Joe Biden expressed Monday his desire to lead a “new world order” during a conversation with business leaders, noting the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine would help reset the status quo.
“My mother had an expression, ‘Out of everything terrible something good will come if you look hard enough for it,’” Biden recalled.
The president spoke about the current global climate during a speech with some of America’s top CEOs attending the Business Roundtable lobbying group’s quarterly meeting.
“I think this presents us with some significant opportunities to make some real changes,” he said.
Biden said the entire world was at an “inflection point” that he said historically occurs about every 3 to 4 generations during times of crisis.
The president recalled a comment from a military official in a recent meeting, who noted that 60 million people died globally between 1900 and 1946, allowing the United States to lead the world.
“Since then, we’ve established a liberal world order, and that hadn’t happened in a long while,” Biden said. “A lot of people dying but nowhere near the chaos.”
Biden explained he thought the world was going through a similar situation.
“Now is the time when things are shifting, there’s going to be a new world order out there, we’ve got to lead it, and we’ve got to unite the rest of the free world while doing it,” he concluded.

Thousands of farmers and hunters marched through Madrid on Sunday in a mass demonstration dubbed “20M Rural,” protesting against the government’s inability to curb rising prices amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The agricultural workers, waving Spanish flags and whistling, marched through the streets accompanied by tractors blowing their horns. The demonstrators were protesting against rising prices on fuel, energy and food, and called on the government to help the sector, to stop speculation, and adopt new laws to regulate supply chains.
